교육연극을 활용한 다문화교실 액션 리서치: 또래관계 개선을 중심으로

본 연구는 또래관계 개선을 목적으로 다문화교실에서 교육연극을 활용하여 실행한 액션 리서치(action research)에 관한 것이다. 본 프로그램에는 서울시에 위치한 위탁형 다문화 중학교에 재학 중인 1-3학년 18명의 학생들이 참여하였다. 연구자는 이 학교에서 직접 교수자가 되어 ‘계획-실행-관찰-반성’이라는 절차에 따라 교육연극 수업 실행과 연구를 함께 실시하였다. 교육연극을 활용한 또래관계 개선 프로그램은 2013년 1년 간 같은 학교에서 연구자가 다문화 학생들의 또래관계를 관찰한 결과를 바탕으로 설계되었으며, 프로그램의 목표는 또래관계의 다양화와 또래 간 문제 해결을 도와주는 것이었다. 본 프로그램은 18회 수업으로 구성되었으며 2014년 3월부터 7월까지 진행되었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실행된 프로그램은 학생들의 또래관계 형태를 다양화하고 또래 간에 발생하는 문제를 해결하는 데 필요한 정서적 공감 능력을 함양하는 데 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 본 프로그램의 실행 과정에서 영향을 주었던 변인들은 프로그램의 내적 변인들과 외적 변인들로 구분되었다. 셋째, 교육연극을 활용한 액션 리서치를 수행함에 있어 연구자는 교수자와 연구자 입장 간의 갈등이 이 연구방법에 내재되어 있음을 파악하게 되었다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 다문화 학생들의 또래관계에 관한 자료가 부족했던 학교 현장에서 교육연극을 활용하고자 하는 교사들에게 참고 자료를 제공해 줄뿐만 아니라 이 주제에 관한 연구 방법에도 실질적인 시사를 줄 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to execute an educational drama/theatre program to improve the relationships among peer students who have different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. Participants in this study consisted of 18 multicultural students whose ages ranged between seventh graders and ninth graders at an alternative school in Seoul, Korea. A peer relationship improvement program with educational drama/theatre has been developed by the researcher who had been observing them and their relationships for the year 2013. The program was designed to help them to diversify their peer relationships and solve possible relationship problems. The program was performed 18 times in total from March to July in 2014. Based on the research, the following three results were observed. First, the educational drama/theatre program helped the students to improve their peer relationships by increasing their emotional empathy. Second, the internal and external factors that contributed during the acting process of the peer relationship improvement program were discussed. Third, the researcher’s potential conflict as an instructor and a researcher was addressed to ensure the goal of the program was achieved. In summary, the study can provide practical information on educational drama/theatre as an instructional method for teachers who want to help their students improve their peer relationships.
