중국의 해외직접투자 결정요인에 관한 분석: 금융위기 전⋅후를 중심으로

초록

2000년 이후 중국의 해외직접투자는 급속하게 발전하여 전 세계 해외투자에서 중요한 존재로 부상하였다. 특히 2008년 세계금융위기의 영향으로 전 세계 해외직접투자의 감소에도 불구하고 중국만은 지속적인 증가세를 유지하였다. 이러한 배경 하에 본 연구는 금융위기가 중국의 해외직접투자에 미친 영향에 대해서 중국의 주요투자유형인 자원지향형투자와 기술지향형투자를 중심으로 분석하였다. 분석을 위해서 2003년부터 2012년까지 10년 동안 중국의 해외직접투자금액 상위 100개국 중 자원생산 및 특허등록 상위 20개국을 표본으로 선정한 후 GLS(Generalized Least Squares) 모형으로 추정하였다. GLS 추정결과 금융위기 이후 자원지향형투자와 기술지향형투자 모두 위기 이전보다 영향력이 더욱 증가하였다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 기존의 선진국과 개도국의 해외직접투자패턴과는 다른 국가주도의 중국식 해외직접투자만의 독특한 특징이라고 볼 수 있다.

Abstract

Since 2000, China’s Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI) has experienced a rapid growth. It has already become an important part of the world OFDI. Although the world OFDI took on a downturn in the wake of global financial crisis, china’s OFDI had presented a contrary increasing trend. The motivation behind this study is to investigate how global financial crisis effect on the determinant of china’s OFDI. Especially we examined china’s OFDI based on natural resource-oriented investment and knowledge-oriented investment. The GLS (Generalized Least Squares) regression model an official data covering china’s OFDI into top 20 countries in resource production and patent grants from 2003-2012 were used to test this study. One major finding is that china demonstrated stronger motives for natural resource-oriented investment and knowledge-oriented investment after global financial crisis. Our findings also show that conventional patterns of FDI relevant to developed and developing countries can’t sufficiently explain recent china’s OFDI during this period.
