Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the determinants of re-employment probability of married women, focusing on high educated group. Using the data from Korea Welfare Panel Study 2006 to 2013, this study applied Cox proportional hazards model. The empirical results are summarized as follows: First, financial stability of household, the number of preschool children, and the iteration of unemployment and re-employment are common factors that reduce the probability of re-employment. Meanwhile, high educated women has longer duration of unemployment in their twenties to thirties during which they have marriage, childbirth and child-rearing. Moreover, re-employment of high degreed women does not show the statistically significant acceleration among those with schoolchildren. Office work experience show adverse effect in re-employment while regular job experience promote the return to labor market. It implies that career discontinuity is more disadvantageous among those are in less flexible labor market, and the job continuity in permanent position is advantageous in re-employment. High educated group is inclined to choose downgraded-employment or unemployment when they once leave permanent position. Therefore, policy improvement of child care and parental leave is required to enhance job continuity of high educated female workers.
