초록

We examine the return on education(ROE) of paid workers and self-employed using KLIPS from 2013 to 2019. We include the father’s education period as a proxy variable in the model to control a bias. In addition, taking into account that the incomes are not normally distributed, quantile regressions are employed. Although the conditional quantile regression(CQR) is a powerful technique to examine the education effect on the conditional income distribution, it needs to remark that our interest lies in the way education changes the unconditional income distribution. herefore, the unconditional quantile regression(UQR) approach that directly analyzes the marginal effect of education on the income distribution is more useful. UQR results present that, in the median and above income percentile, ROE of paid workers increase along the income percentile, but that of the self-employed decreased. This suggests that being limited the role of education as a powerful policy treatment to improve income for the self-employed with median income and above.
