본 연구는 COVID-19가 숙박 및 음식점업 매출액에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. COVID-19는 국내 모든 산업에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 하지만, 이 시기 사회적 거리 두기 단계에 따라 일정 인원 이상 집함금지, 시설 운영시간 제한 등으로 가장 큰 피해 본 산업 중 하나는 숙박 및 음식점업이다. 본 연구는 COVID-19 시기 전후로 같은 사업체 표본을 유지하고 있는 사업체패널을 이용하여, 창업과 폐업의 효과를 제외하고 영업을 지속해 나가는 사업체들에 초점을 두었다. 9차 베타 자료를 이용하여 2018~2021년도를 분석한 결과 숙박 및 음식점업의 매출액이 다른 산업군과 COVID-19 이전에 비해 50% 정도 감소한 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 이중차분분석 이외에도 추가로 시행한 동적이중차분 분석, 통제집단합성법을 통한 강건성 검정에서도 유사하게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 추후 팬데믹 극복을 위한 산업지원 정책에 더 정확한 정보를 제공한다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on sales in the lodging and restaurant industry. Analyzing the period 2018-2021 using the 9th beta of the Workplace Panel Survey(WPS), we find that sales in the lodging and restaurant industry decreased by about 50% compared to other industries and before COVID-19. These results are similar to the results of the difference-in-differences(DID) analysis and the robustness test using the dynamic DID analysis and the Synthetic Control Method(SCM). The results of this study provide more accurate information for policy support of industries to overcome the pandemic.
