Abstract
This study examines the role of localization and cultural congruence in instant noodle package design and their influence on consumer purchase intention in overseas markets. The package design of Koreno, a Korean instant noodle brand distributed in Vietnam, was selected as a case study. Five analytical dimensions—color, image, typography, brand identity, and cultural congruence—were applied. A qualitative case study approach was employed using semi-structured interviews with six Vietnamese consumers and four experts in food package design and international marketing, and the collected data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that Koreno’s package design reflects visual conventions prevalent in the Vietnamese instant noodle market. High-saturation color contrasts support intuitive flavor recognition, while large cooking images and Vietnamese-language information structures enhance perceptual clarity and cultural familiarity. In addition, visual cues emphasizing Korean brand origin contribute to trust formation and positively influence purchase evaluation. The study suggests that package design localization is most effective when integrated with cultural congruence rather than applied as a superficial adaptation. These findings demonstrate how localized visual strategies contribute to the formation of consumer purchase intention and provide practical implications for global food brands developing package design strategies for overseas markets.
