Abstract
This study has focused on various activities that have been carried out in social media since the disaster that caused national trauma. From 2014 onwards, social media users posted a yellow ribbon on their profile photo, posed a problem about the cause or suspicion of the disaster, shared the heartbreaking story of the victims, and encouraged the participation of users. In this study, these activities in social media were viewed as ‘digital rituals’ that crossed the boundaries of memory and oblivion. In particular, social media’s algorithms, which take into account user’s tastes and friends’ interests, encourage participation in ‘digital rituals’ and keep the heat of memorialization and truth-clarification from turning off, trapping the trauma into the ‘oblivion swamp’ but to ‘fire of memory’.
