Abstract
The purpose of this study were to investigate perceptional characteristics of general elementary school teachers about students’ problem behavior. Research instrument consisted of 19 problem behavior types based upon advanced researches. 106 teachers participated in this survey to express their perceptional degrees of seriousness, stress, teacher coping capability, improvement possibility, and teacher responsibility about 19 problem behaviors. The results of this study are presented as following: Teacher-student relation problem behaviors were considered to be lightly serious. If teacher-student relation problem behaviors were not aggressive, teachers were stressed slightly and expected positively the behavior to be improved. Teachers considered peer relation problem behaviors to be the most serious and were under the most of stress if peer attack occurred. Teachers felt the most responsibility for class hour problem behaviors and were good at copying with students’ negligence of task in class. Teachers reported that ‘class rule violation behaviors’ could be copied with and improved best. According to teacher variables difference analysis, man perceived problem behaviors less serious and stressful than woman. Contrastively, man’s coping capability, improvement possibility, and teacher responsibility perception degrees were higher than woman’s. Teachers’ responsibility perception varied depended on the teaching experience. Teachers with long teaching experience perceived teacher responsibility about problem behaviors as less. Based on these results, guidelines and implications for instructing students’ problem behavior were suggested.
