Abstract
This study deals with the change of life after marital dissolution in a longitudinal manner. As the change of life includes both material and non-material aspects, this study investigated the change of economic status and life satisfaction. Using 311 cases experiencing marital dissolution during 4th-8th waves of Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) dataset, three time points of 1 year before marital dissultion, 1-2 years and 3-4 years after marital dissolution were analysed with longitudinal multi-level modeling. The results showed that women generally experienced the decline of household equivalent income after marital dissolution. On the other hand, the life satisfaction of women were better than that of men on the whole. Especially women experiencing divorce showed higher life satisfaction than divorced men. These findings imply that women may have a kind of mental compensation in spite of the fall of economic status after divorce when compared to men.
