‘사람’의 행복할 권리와 ‘좀비-동성애자’의 해피엔딩 스토리: <인생은 아름다워> 시청자 게시판 분석을 중심으로

초록

오늘날 ‘사람은 누구나 행복할 권리가 있다’는 문구는 설명되기보다는 시･공간을 초월한 사회의 기본적 원칙으로 호소되는 경향이 있다. ‘차이’에 대한 사회적 차별에 반대하는 표어로 사용되며, 인권 존중의 가치와 공공선을 지향하는 사회의 보편 원리로서 자리매김하고 있다. 본 논문은 이 문구의 지위를 보편적, 초월적 원칙의 위치에서 끌어내려 보고자 한다. 특히, ‘사람은 누구나’의 행복할 권리가 동성애와 관련하여 발화되는 맥락과 조건, 방식을 구체적으로 살펴봄으로써, 행복할 권리가 동성애에 대한 편견과 차별의 문제에 적극 개입하며 담론적으로 생산하는 ‘사람’이라는 주체―행복할 권리와 자격 (그리고 의무와 책임을 갖는) 사람/동성애자―가 누구인지에 대하여 질문해 보고자 한다. 우리는 이를 SBS <인생은 아름다워> 시청자 게시판 분석을 통해 읽어보고자 한다. 동성애에 대한 불편함이 개인적, 집단적으로 표출되고 이에 공감하거나 반박하는 의견들이 동성애에 대한 찬성･반대의 논쟁 구도를 이루며 상호 경쟁한 SBS <인생은 아름다워> 시청자 게시판은 동성애자가 행복할 권리를 갖는 ‘사람’으로 인정･부인되는 풍경을 사례적으로 담고 있기 때문이다. 본 논문은 게시판 토론 분석을 통해 동성애자가 행복할 권리를 갖는 ‘사람’으로 출현하고 인정되는 방식과 그 효과에 대해 분석할 것이다. (1) 동성애자가 ‘사람’의 행복할 권리를 획득하기 위해 배제/삭제하여야 할 ‘동성애’가 무엇인가에 대해 질문하고, (2) 이성애규범 사회가 ‘행복할 권리’를 통해 약속하는 동성애자의 ‘미래-해피엔딩’에 문제제기하고자 하며, (3) ‘행복이 이미 그리고 언제나 상실된 주체’로 규정되고 배제되는 퀴어의 관점에서 오늘날의 행복 정치학을 비판하고자 한다.

Abstract

What does it mean to be a homosexual who has ‘right to happiness’? Drawing upon ethnographic data collected from participants in the official ‘Life is Beautiful’ online forum, this paper questions the value of ‘happiness’ language mobilized to advance equal rights for homosexuals. Being a confident member of a society who has ‘right to happiness’ (or who deserves happiness), means being an insider of particular ‘happiness’ map—the map that crudely excludes certain way of living and being from the realm of happiness and rights. For those who mark difference in that map, the invitation to be a happy person does not, therefore, simply involve the recognition of their difference. It also, in many ways, involves the process of normalization of the difference. And the process of normalization of the difference, this paper argues, is often followed by the process of ‘re-differentiation’ in which who exists inside and who exists outside of this map is further defined in terms of their assimilability, respectability, and rightfulness. In analyzing the process by which same-sex love make its case for the recognition of rights to happiness, this paper hope to shed light on the more general question of what it means to be a deserving, recognizable happy homosexual in contemporary Korea.
