Abstract
This paper explores the possibility of differences between women and men legislators and among women legislators in legislative voting behaviour. An analysis of roll-call votes in the 17th and 18th National Assembly of the Republic of Korea reveals that not only are women legislators different from men legislators in legislative voting behaviour but women legislators also behave differently according to their party’s partisanship or whether their party is government party or opposition party. Especially, men legislators in progressive parties show different voting behavior compared with other legislators. These results mean that although women legislators are more interested in women’s issues and polices than men legislators, women legislators are not freed from party politics and political context. Also it shows that men legislators are also likely to become good supporters or partners for improving gender equality.
