Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the strategy instruction using graphic organizers in reading comprehension of elementary school students with autism spectrum disorders. The subjects were 3 elementary school students with autism spectrum disorders, attending after school class at center. The multiple probe across subjects design was used for the research design. The study was carried out in the order of baseline, intervention, maintenance and generalization. Each subjects' reading comprehension scores were graphed to analyze visually. Results of this study were as follows. First, reading strategy instruction using graphic organizers improved elementary school students’ with autism spectrum disorders reading comprehension performance in expository text. Second, improved reading comprehension performance of elementary school students with autism spectrum disorders was maintained even after the intervention. Third, improved reading comprehension performance of elementary school students’ with autism spectrum disorders was generalized in narrative text even after the intervention. This study imply that providing repetitive practice opportunity of learned contents at school during after school program implementing reading strategy instruction using graphic organizers can improve reading comprehension students with autism spectrum disorders.
