경도 지적장애 성인의 관용어 이해 능력

본 연구는 경도 지적장애 성인의 관용어 이해 능력에 대하여 연구하였다. 대상자는 서울ㆍ경기 또는 대전 지역에 거주하는 경도 지적장애 성인과 표준화검사결과로 언어연령을 일치시킨 일반아동, 각 13명씩 총 26명이었다. 실험 과제는 문맥이 제시된 상황에서 관용어의 친숙도와 투명도에 따라 친숙하고 투명한 관용어(familiar-transparent), 친숙하고 불투명한 관용어(familiar-opaque), 친숙하지 않고 투명한 관용어(unfamiliar-transparent), 친숙하지 않고 불투명한 관용어(unfamiliar-opaque)의 네 유형으로 분류하였다. 관용어 이해를 살펴보기 위해서 선다형 선택 과제를 제시하였다. 선다형 선택 과제의 선택지에는 관용적 해석(idiomatic interpretation), 문맥과 관련된 해석(contextual plausible interpretation), 문맥과 관련 없는 해석(contextual implausible interpretation), 문자적 해석(literal interpretation)을 포함시켰다. 두 집단 간에 친숙도와 투명도에 따라 관용어 이해에 차이가 있는지를 알아보기 위해 집단(2)×친숙도(2)×투명도(2)의 삼원혼합분산분석을 실시하였으며, 오류는 오류유형별로 빈도분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 친숙도와 투명도에 따른 관용어 이해점수는 일반아동 집단이 경도 지적장애 성인 집단보다 유의하게 높았다. 집단 내에서는 친숙도 및 투명도에 따른 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았으나 변인들 간의 상호작용 효과가 나타났다. 둘째, 관용어 이해과제에서 나타난 오류 유형을 분석한 결과, 경도 지적장애 성인은 문맥과 관련된 오류를 가장 많이 보였고 다음으로 문자적 오류, 문맥과 관련없는 오류 순으로 나타났다. 일반 아동은 문맥과 관련된 오류가 대부분이었고 문자적 오류와 문맥과 관련없는 오류는 드물게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 경도 지적장애 성인들이 비슷한 언어 연령의 아동들에 비해 관용어 이해에 어려움을 보이며 이러한 어려움은 문맥 활용의 어려움과 추론 능력 및 비유 의미 유추 능력에서의 제한 때문인 것으로 해석할 수 있다.

Abstract

In the present study, the characteristics of idiom understanding according to familarity and transparancy of the adults with mild intellectual disability were investigated. The subjects were 13 adults with mild intellectual disabilities and 13 normal children with the same language age in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Daejeon. Experimental tasks consisted of familiar-transparent idioms, familiar-opaque idioms, unfamiliar-transparent idioms and unfamiliar-opaque idioms. The multiple choice selection tasks were presented for idiom understanding. Each example contained idiomatic interpretation, contextual plausible interpretation, contextual implausible interpretation and literal interpretation. It carried out the mixed three-way ANOVA test to understand the difference between the two groups depending on the familiarity and transparency. The results of this study were as follows: the idiom understanding score of general children was significantly higher than that of adults with intellectual disabilities. There isn't a significant difference in the familiarity and transparency. In partifular, adults with mild intellectual disability tended to understand the meaning of idioms related with context and next literally. The results are further discussed regarding figurative language comprehension and reasoning ability.
