Abstract

The present study examined gender differences in the prevalence of ADHD among elementary school students in Kyungnam province. The students’ information was collected from the homeroom teachers of eight elementary schools in Kyungnam province. The total number of students was 1,663. To explore the prevalence of ADHD, eighteen items of ADHD symptoms based on the DSM-Ⅳ-TR(2000) version were used. The results showed that ADHD was more prevalent in male children than in female children. Female children demonstrated the predominantly inattentive type more than both predominantly hyperactive-impulsive and combined types.
