초록
Since the mid-1980s, there has been growing interest in using antecedent interventions to address problem behaviors. This paper analyzes antecedent interventions developed using the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) to reduce problem behaviors in students with developmental disabilities. Antecedent interventions are defined as procedures that alter antecedent events that occur prior to the occurrence of problem behaviors, including discriminative stimuli (SDs) or motivating operations (MOs). Studies included in this analysis were identified using an electronic search of ERIC and PsycINFO databases for articles published between 2001 and 2009. These studies were then sorted into four categories of interventions: (a) instructional, (b) environmental, (c) social, and (d) physiological. The results showed that the various intervention strategies led to a decrease in problem behaviors. This paper discusses the effectiveness of antecedent interventions, and various assessment methodologies used to prescribe interventions. Additionally, it points out relevant issues for future research.
