Abstract

This study was aimed to examine the relative influences of self-discrepancy and post-event rumination on depression and social anxiety and the mediating effect of post-event rumination in influences of self-discrepancy on depression and social anxiety. The survey conducted on 470 undergraduates in Seoul, Kyeonggi, and other areas. The date was analysed through mean, standard deviation, frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, Pearson correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS WIN 21.0. The results of this study were as follows: first, depression was mostly accounted for by negative interpersonal evaluations. Second, social anxiety was mostly accounted for by anxiety control failure rumination. Third, post-event rumination partially mediated both the effects of self-discrepancy on depression and social anxiety.
