Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between size perception bias and anxiety group which is categorized high social anxiety (HSA), low social anxiety (LSA) using the Ebbinghaus Illusion. In the first study, It is used to investigate size perception bias, using size judgment task included neutral, positive, threat word stimuli to compare illusion magnitude between groups. And in Study 2, It was same procedure to compare through a size perception judgment task using facial expression stimulation between groups. As a result of the first study, there was 3 way interaction among group, surrounding circles and word stimuli. There was no significant difference between groups. In the HSA, the difference between word stimuli was found to be significant when the size of the surrounding circle was small. Additionally, as a result of the interaction between the stimulus and the size of the surrounding circle, it was found that there was a significant difference in the threat stimulus. It was revealed that when the surrounding circle was small, the threat stimulus was perceived as larger, and when the surrounding circle was large, the threat stimulus was perceived as smaller. Then second study, there was significant difference between groups. There were main effect depending on facial expression stimuli, surrounding circle size and 3 way interaction among group, surrounding circle size, facial expression stimuli. As a result of analysis, there was significant difference in anger facial expression between groups. Thus, there was a difference in the amount of illusion regarding the threat stimulus between groups. The results of this study revealed that the HSA can occur a bias toward threat or angry stimuli in the perception process. It was indicated that HSA was affected by surrounding circles with negative stimuli compare to LSA. So, It suggested the cognition integrated with emotion can affect size perception bias in HSA.
