치매를 통해 본 인간의 영성이해와 돌봄: 목회 상담적 접근

치매는 노화의 과정 속에 점진적이고 돌이킬 수 없는 인지력의 손상이 인격의 붕괴에까지 이르는 증상을 총체적으로 부르는 용어이다. 치매는 노년의인생의 하강기에 퇴직과 고독과 소외 속에서, 죽음의 문제가 해결되지 않은불안한 상황 속에 극도의 불안으로부터의 탈피를 위해 무의식적으로 “망각의 세계”로 도피하는 현상인 듯하다. 치매환자는 비록 인지력과 인격을 잃은취약성을 지녔지만 하나님의 형상으로 창조된 존엄성을 가진 존재로서 소외와 경멸의 대상이 아니라 그래서 더욱 인격적이고 온화한 돌봄이 필요함을인식해야 한다. 치매 증상을 통한 인간에 대한 영성적 이해는 예수 그리스도의 구속사역의 귀중함을 더욱 깊게 느끼게 해주어, 같은 입장에서 빚진 자로서 사는 인간에게 동료 인간을 용납하도록 겸허한 태도를 갖게 한다.
Abstract
Dementia is a phenomenon of senility that has been observed as a childish behavior and called as “dotage” in elderly people. The cause of dementia is damage of rational part of brain because of plaques and tangles in brain. The understanding of psychosocial and spiritual dimension of humanity through the phenomenon of dementia helps the caregiver to accept and love the patient generously in spite of the irrational demands,aggressive behaviors and temper tantrum that was resulted from losing sense of self. Through dementia man is revealed as totally depraved and selfish being, nevertheless, with dignity as the God’s image bearer. Man is also revealed as vulnerable and interdependent being with infirmities,as a result in need of mutual care. Connectedness of Interpersonal relationship is indispensable and can delay the speed of deterioration of rational function, and foster the spiritual well-being of dementia patient by experiencing the affirmative attitudes and affection of people. This can be promoted by narrative approach with the help of “memory box.”
