Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop and implement a class-wide social-emotional competence enhancement program and to examine its effects on children with and without disabilities in inclusive preschools. For this purpose, 4-year-old classes from two preschools were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group participated in the program for 15 weeks. To ensure successful implementation, the program included teacher training and support, classroom management support, individualized support for children with disabilities, and collaboration with parents. The results of the program implementation are as follows. First, a significant difference was found between groups in score changes in emotional recognition. Emotional recognition of young children with disabilities in the experimental group improved. Second, no significant difference was found between groups in self-regulation abilities. Self-regulation abilities of children with disabilities in the experimental group improved while those in the control group decreased. Third, a significant difference was found between groups in score changes in prosocial behavior. The prosocial behavior of children with disabilities in the experimental group improved significantly compared to children with disabilities in the control group. This study has limitations, such as a limited number of participants and the lack of long-term effect verification. However, its significance lies in the development and implementation of a social-emotional competence enhancement program for young children in inclusive classrooms, as well as in examining its feasibility for practical application.
