본 논문은 구술－청각 서사로 알려진 마가복음이 어떻게 응집력/결속성 있는 이야기로 의사소통되었는지를 인지언어학의 틀의미론의 관점에서 연구한 글이다. 구술－청각 의사소통 문화에서 응집력 있는 텍스트 정보 처리 능력은 청자와 화자의 의사소통의 승패를 가름하는 결정적인 요소이기 때문에, 1세기 사회에서 마가복음의 원 의미가 어떻게 전달되고 이해되었는지를이해하기 위해서는 구술-청각 서사 담화로서 마가복음 담화의 응집력을 결정하는 요소에 대한 지식을 가지는 것은 필수적이다. 이를 위해 본 논문은인지언어학의 틀 의미론을 사용하여 마가복음 1:16-20의 문단정보가 처리되는 과정을 설명한다. 문단은 구술－청각 서사 담화의 의사소통의 기본단위 일뿐만 아니라 서사 담화를 응집력 있는 덩어리로 기억하고 이해하고자 의존하는 담화 단위이기 때문이다. 우리의 결론은 화자와 청자 사이에 공유된 제자부름 틀은 한편으로는 마가복음 1:16-20에 나오는 두 사건을 하나의 주제적 단위로 처리하도록 하고 또 다른 한편으로는 발화된 텍스트(언어적 문법적) 정보를 응집력 있는 하나의 덩어리로 처리토록 이끄는 인지모형(cognitive model)이라는 것이다. 이러한 사실을 증명하고자 첫째로 본 논문은 해변 틀과 형제, 어부 그리고 제자 틀이 각각 어떻게 문단의 장소정보와 인물 정보를 응집력 있게 처리할 수 있도록 돕는지를 보여준다. 둘째로 사건 틀로서제자부름 틀이 그것의 전형적으로 인과적으로 연결된 일련의 사건(선생의관찰－선생의 부름－제자의 따름)을 제공함으로 어떻게 두 이야기가 각각구별되고 응집력 있는 문단 정보로 처리되는지를 보여준다. 셋째로 우리의관심은 한 문단에 나오는 다양한 문법적 요소(헬라어 정관사와 연어 그리고접속사)의 사용과 용법은 적절한 틀을 환기할 때만 바르게 이해할 수 있음을 보여준다. 물론 본고는 틀이 담화이해의 가장 중요한 요소라고 주장하지않는다. 다만 텍스트에 대한 바른 이해는 텍스트에만 의존해서 이뤄지기 보다 텍스트 이해를 위해 화자와 청자가 공유했던 틀지식에 의해 보조되어야한다는 사실을 기억해야 한다. 따라서 삶의 규범을 하나님의 계시로서 성서의 원래의 가르침에 그 기초를 두고 있는 이들은 원 화자와 청자가 텍스트를 통한 의사소통을 할 때 공유했던 틀을 찾는 작업을 그들의 성서 읽기의필수과제로 삼아야 한다.
Abstract
The present study is to demonstrate in the light of frame semantics of cognitive linguistics how as an oral-aural narrative the Gospel of Mark may be communicated in a cohesive way between speakers and audience In particular, the study is focused on Mk 1:16-20 which consists of two ‘calling stories.’ the reason I choose the paragraph for the present study is because of the belief that Mark’s oral-aural narrative is intended to be communicated basically on the basis of paragraph or episode, a discourse unit. It has been known that the cohesion of a paragraph is made by narrative information(e. g. place, event and characters[that is, paragraph boundary markers]), by lexical information(collocation) and by grammatical items (conjunction, article, and pronoun and so on). Making use of frame semantics of cognitive linguistics, however, I will show that the cohesion of the paragraph is made possible by frame-based story processing; and information such as narrative elements,lexical items and grammatical indicators plays an role of evoking frame so that the episode information may be processed in cohesive way. It is,of course, not easy to choose an appropriate method which may lead us to a better understanding of such an ancient text as the Gospel of Mark. Nonetheless, since cognitive linguistics have shown the importance of human cognitive processing in understanding the coherence of information within episode or paragraph, the present study hopes to demonstrate that frame semantics is a linguistic theory to show how the original meaning of Mark’s Gospel may be communicated and understood in terms of paragraphs.
