오늘날 중세 시대의 설교에 대한 관심은 호기심을 가지고 가끔 찾아보는 주 제로 여긴다. 그러나 모든 시대를 통해 설교는 기독교인의 삶에서 필수적 요 소였고, 비록 그 기능이 약화되었다고 해도 중세 시대에도 또한 그러하였다. 12/13세기 십자군과 대중설교가 등을 통해 설교가 활발해지면서 중세에서도 설교에 관한 교육이 실시되고 이론들이 연구되고 그리고 설교집이 작성되었 다. 당시의 설교에 관한 강조와 이론들 그리고 설교들은 설교수사단(Ordo praedicatores: 도미니쿠스 수도회)에서 그 실례를 잘 살펴볼 수 있다. 도미니쿠스에 의해 설립된 이 단체는 설교를 통한 영혼 구원이라는 목표를 위해 학습하고 준비하고 수고하는 수도회였다. 설교수사단의 헌장에서 드러 나는 이들 목표는 수도회 내에서 설교의 이론과 많은 설교들을 낳았다. 이들 중 설교에 관한 이론은 훔베르투스의 저서 De eruditione Praedicatorum(On Preaching)에서, 실제적인 설교가로서는 토마스 아퀴나스를 통해 고찰한다. 훔베르투스의 설교에 관한 이론은 13세기의 다양한 설교에 관한 근본 원리 들을 7장(chapter)에 걸쳐 충실하게 고찰한다. 특히 저서는 설교의 중요성과 필요성 그리고 설교자의 삶과 준비에 관한 잘 제시한다. 나아가 12/13세기의 설교에 관한 담론에서 가장 핵심적인 요소는 설교자들에 있었음이 잘 드러낸다. 토마스 아퀴나스는 설교자로서의 자신의 역할을 소중하게 여겼으며, 실제 그의 설교는 소박하고 단순하며 또한 간결하였다. 또한 설교 시 성경의 해석 에 있어서도 객관적 성경을 강조하는 모습을 보였다. 이들 설교 수사단원들 은 수도사적인 삶과 설교자로서의 삶을 잘 조화시켰을 뿐만 아니라, 교사의 역할과 설교자의 역할 역시 잘 균형을 맞추고 있다.
Abstract
The interest in sermons in the Middle Ages is often viewed as a theme out of curiosity. However, Christian preaching was essential through all ages, and it was the same in the Middle Ages, even though its function was weakened. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the sermons of the Crusaders and popular sermons became active, the education and theories about ser- mons appeared actively, and homiliary were written. The emphasis, theories of preaching and sermons can be well seen in the Ordo praedica- tores[Dominican order]. Founded by Dominicus, the Order was a congregation to learn, prepare, and labor for the goal of soul salvation through preaching. These goals, manifested in the Primitive Constitution, have produced much theories of preaching and many preachers and sermons. Among these, the theory of preaching is discussed in Humbertus’ book, De eruditione Praedicatorum, and Thomas Aquinas is considered as a practical preacher. Humbertus’ theory of preaching faithfully addressed the fundamental princi- ples of various preaching in chapter seven. This book presents the im- portance and necessity of preaching and the life and preparation of the preacher, etc. It is evident in the 12/13th centuries that the most important factor in the discourse on preaching was in the preachers. Thomas Aquinas valued his role as a preacher, and his preaching was simple, easy, and clear. He also emphasized the objective meaning of the Bible. These Dominican not only harmonize the life of the apostolic life with the life of the preacher, but also the role of the teacher and the role of the preacher are well balanced.
