현대사회에서 우리의 몸은 전통적 개념의 이원론적 틀에서의 몸의 의미와는 달리 다양한 의미로 해석되고 있다. 즉 이원론적 개념에서의 몸은 마음의 상대적 개념으로서 흔히 플라톤, 데카르트의 신체사상을 빌어 몸의 의미를 설명하였다. 그러나 현대사회에서 몸은 마음의 상대적 개념으로 국한되기보다는 문화자본, 사회적 계급, 자신의 정체성 등을 나타내기 위한 수단으로 이해되고 있다. 이 과정에서 몸은 정신보다 오히려 강조되는 경향을 띄게 되며 몸에 대한 다양한 담론들이 쏟아져 나오고 있다. 현대사회에서 몸의 중요성이 강조된다는 사실은 몸을 기반으로 다양한 학문적 향방이 결정되는 체육학의 중요성이 그만큼 강조된다는 것과 의미가 같다. 결국 몸의 중요성이 강조되면 강조될수록 이에 따른 올바른 몸의 철학적 사고에 대한 교육의 필요성이 대두되며 이는 곧 체육학의 중요성이 강조되는 이유가 된다.
Abstract
In contemporary society, the meaning of body has been understood in various aspects, differently from the concept of traditional dualism. That is, the body is interpreted as a counter concept of mind in traditional dualism, adopting Plato and Descartes' theory of mind-body. However, in contemporary societies, the body can be explained rather in the concept of cultural capital, social status, and a identification of self, than as the counter concept of mind. In this process, it is common that the meaning of body can be more emphasized than that of mind which had been more prioritized in traditional mind-body concept. For this, lots of discourses on body have been published in this society. The fact that the body is being appreciated by people in contemporary society means that the academic dimension of physical education is getting broadened. Many academic approaches in physical education are actually accomplished through various physical activities. In the end, the more the meaning of body gets emphasized, the more the needs of physical educations gets stronger as the right educational direction for philosophical thinking of people. That is why people have started to re-evaluate the importance of physical educations in contemporary society.
