본 연구는 스피노자의 신체관을 규명하고자 한다. 그의 주요 사상가운데 실체, 속성, 양태의 개념을 기반으로 신체의 의미와 역할을 명확히 이해하는데 있다. 이를 통해 스피노자의 신체관이 체육철학에서 어떤 의미를 가지고 있는지를 규명하고자 하며 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스피노자가 생각하는 신체의 의미는 개별체(individu)로서 타인과의 관계에서 변용체(affectio)의 의미를 가진다. 체육학적인 의미에 적용한다면 타인의 움직임에 대한 무의식적 신체 움직임이 존재하는 것을 말한다. 신체적 능력이 뛰어난 만큼 그 속에서 정신적 힘도 크게 발휘할 수 있다. 즉 신체적 능력이 뛰어나면 정신적 힘의 능력은 신체적 능력의 크기에 비례하여 크게 발휘할 수 있다는 점에서 체육에서 신체의 역할을 긍정적으로 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 스피노자의 신체의 역할은 개별체로서 인간 개인의 역량(potentia)을 바탕으로 한 신체와 정신을 합일하려는 경향, 힘, 노력, 욕망인 코나투스(conatus)의 개념으로 파악한다. 이러한 코나투스는 서양인에게 체육현상에서 보여주는 동양적인 기(氣)를 설명하는데 가장 유용한 철학적 개념이다. 셋째, 스피노자의 병행론 의미는 신체와 정신이라는 각각의 힘을 강조하기 위해 병행론을 주장하였다. 따라서 스피노자 병행론의 진정한 의미를 이해하기 위해서는 스피노자의 병행론이 일원론적인 이해를 전제로 하여 서술하고 있다는 점을 이해할 필요가 있다. 스피노자의 심신관계는 일원론으로 파악해야 한다는 당위성의 주장이 아니라, 심신일원론일 수밖에 없는 원인을 스피노자의 신체관은 보여 주고 있다. 스피노자의 신체관은 체육에서 신체를 하나의 대상으로 보기보다 존재론적 입장에서 규명하기 위한 이론적 정초가 있다는 점에서 의미를 가진다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify Spinoza's body-mind problem surmounted the Cartesian dualism. The main thought of Spinoza, based the concepts of substance, attribute and mode, is to understand clearly the meaning, role of human body and the psycho-physical relationship of Spinoza. And it is to find what kind of meanings has in the sport philosophy. The results of this research are as follows: First, the meaning of body in Spinoza was affectio in the relationship with others. It means the unconscious body's movement corresponding to other behaviors. Second, the role of body in the Spinoza has pussiance as individual in the point of the body's affection. That is to say, we need to understand endeavor, striving, and power to be unified the body and mind. It is very useful philosophical word for foreign people to be easily understood the Qi(氣) of the East. Third, the relationship of body and mind in Spinoza is parallelism and monism. The meaning of parallelism in Spinoza was to be explained the instrument to conceive the state of body-mind. We do not understand the essential meaning of parallelism without understanding the monism of body-mind to understand clearly the body-mind problem in Spinoza, we have to ontologically grasp the human being. Spinoza's body-mind problem shows the philosophical and logical backgrounds why we have to accept the monistic approach in the physical education.
