플라톤 철학에 나타난 무용의 의미

이 연구는 고대 그리스를 대표하는 철학자인 플라톤의 철학을 중심으로 무용의 의미를 연구하였다. 플라톤은 『법률』편, 제2권과 제7권에서 매우 자세히 무용의 의미를 언급하였다. 이를 근거로 플라톤이 언급한 무용의 의미를 살펴 본 결과, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 먼저 코레이아(합창가무)란 춤과 노래를 합친 단어로써 어원은 그리스의 여신 무사 여신들에게서 온 단어이다. 이들은 우리의 가무도 유도하고 노래들 및 춤들과 함께 서로 어우러지게 하는데 그들이 코로스이다. 즉 코레이아는 춤과 노래의 행위를 가리키는 말이고, 코로스는 합창가무단을 가리키는 말이다. 합창가무자들의 공연에서 연기자들은 모방 행위를 가장 잘 표현했을 경우, 가장 기뻐하며 칭찬하고 아름답다고 느낀다. 이것은 모방 행위가 곧 예술이기 때문이다. 플라톤은 예술가를 모방자 또는 모방가라고 표현하였다. 다음으로 오르케시스(춤)를 ‘더 아름다운 몸들을 모방하는 춤’과 ‘더 추한 몸들을 모방하는 춤’으로 구분하였다. ‘더 아름다운 몸들을 모방하는 춤’은 ‘고귀함을 목표로 하는 춤’이고, ‘더 추한 몸들을 모방하는 춤’은 ‘천박함을 목표로 하는 춤’이라고 하였다. 플라톤이 ‘더 아름다운 몸들을 모방하는 춤’이라고 본 것은 플라톤이 예술 행위를 모방 행위로 보았기 때문이다. 이 연구는 플라톤이 언급한 무용의 의미가 오늘날 현대무용을 공부하는 이들에게 이론적 토대를 마련하는데 그 궁극적인 목적이 있다.
Abstract
This stud, representing the ancient Greek philosopher Plato's philosophy was to study the meaning of the dance center.
