Abstract

The purpose of this study was to recover the humanistic value of sport and to discover the realities of sport. The main results of this study were as follows: First, fundamental and realistic understanding of the whole person was investigated through the meaning of a united view of body in sport by Confucian perspective. Second, the essential plan of human education through sport was presented. The Oriental view of mind and body as oneness was necessary to rationally establish the educational role of physical education and sport. Because Confucian idea would seek the basic understanding of the human beings, it could contribute to the right establishment of value of physical education and sport. Third, the frame of thinking through the principle of Confucian idea was applied to reinforce the morality and ethicality in sport. The fundamental understanding of human activity must be emphasized in that activities in sport focused on the victory in competition. Forth, the essential role of sport that could resolve a conflict in human relations was sought. It's a pity that Olympism that emphasized the harmony of mankind was damaged by principle of competition. Because Confucian idea was the principle of relationship that extended social stability and unification through an individual be completed, it could contribute to the human life and culture over the situation of sport.
