초록
Judging in Dancesport competitions has been controversial for a long time. The hosting association is holding competitions more than 50 times a year, applying the respective judgment rules. However, the results of each competition differ, since subjective judging is implied instead of following codified rules. Therefore, judgment disputes frequently occur in competitions. Training programs on fair judging are held every year, because fair judging is necessary for each competition. However, the distrust toward judge assignments based on personal connections is not disappearing. The Korean Dacesport Federation (KDF) is instructing judges to follow judging rules and codes of conduct based on the World Dancesport Federation (WDSF). Despite these measurements great distrust toward judges keeps remaining. Studies on Dancesport have been conducted from various angles. However, an ethical approach towards judging has never been considered. No one would disagree about the importance of judgment rules and codes of conduct. The lack of philosophical rationality (lack of morality) could be the reason for the status quo. There should be a change in the philosophical rationality and an infusion of a sense of ethics of the judges in order to solve the problem of distrust. A Critique of Practical Reason based on Kant’s moral philosophy will be applied as a standard. Following issues will be examined throughout this article: first, judgment rules and codes of conduct of the KDF; second, a Critique of Practical Reason by Kant; third, the autonomy (freedom) of judges.
