반칙과 거짓말 : 칸트 철학으로 본 스포츠윤리의 당위성

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine sport cheating in the frame of Kant’s ethics related to lying and suggest standards for sport ethics. In his writing, ‘On a Supposed Right to Lie Because of Philanthropic Concerns’(Über ein vermeintes Recht aus Menschenliebe zu lügen), Kant insists that lying should not be allowed in any circumstance. In a sport circumstance, therefore, lying can be interpreted as intentionally deceiving others or cheating like fouls for one’s victory. This study intends to more clearly emphasize the appropriateness of sportsmanship, called ‘fair play’ which is a duty for all the sportsmen to keep, based on Kant’s ethnic metaphysical theory about lying with rather strict ethical rules, while looking into sport ethics from a philosophical point of view. It is not to state realistic applicability in various circumstances of sports, but to define the ethical concept of sports from an intrinsic perspective. In other words, the pending issue of this study is not to state a detailed code of conduct for sport ethics fit for different sport circumstances, but to reflectively contemplate the principle of sport ethics. Then, this study intends to arouse sportsmen’s attention to sport cheating and promote the realization of sound and healthy sportsmanship.
