Abstract
This research was conducted on a group of 3 female and 3 male amateur golfers who spent 2 to 3 hours of practicing golf everyday. These participants describe themselves as golf addicts. A qualitative approach was taken in order to understand the process and experience of those who consider themselves as golf addicts. The research mainly focused on whether the participants recognize their addiction, different stages of addiction and the experience of addition. It is true that exercise does us more good than harm and that side effects of exercise addiction is very different from those of drug addicts which can destroy us. The participants went through positive changes through golf and were able to build not only healthy body and positive minds. They were relived of stress and felt revitalized by inhaling fresh air when playing golf out on a field. Overall, their self-esteem rose and felt satisfaction about their life and themselves. For the negative effects of addiction, the participants experienced some difficulties in daily life and injuries to both physical and mental health. Moreover, these people could have negative impacts on society as well. At present, the number of people who are playing golf is dramatically increasing every year. As the quality of exercising standard rises, more attention is being paid to the issue of addiction. Thus, more comprehensive research into the golf addiction is further needed. Therefore, when exercising, one should not focus on achieving a certain goal, but on enjoying oneself with a positive mind.
