Abstract

This study aims to analyze the exercise addiction as a method to pursue the goals for health and beauty in the medicalization which is the distinctive characteristic of the modern society. The experience of human is defined as change of medical technology in the medicalization. The activity of sport is understood in the medicine. It is a means to achieve the goals required of the background of modern society, healthism and lookism. People have more interesting in exercise through the exercise effectiveness and value presented by doctors. The people, however, who choose exercise for own health and beauty instead of plastic surgery and medication have intend to experience the side effect of exercise. They, nevertheless, firmly accept that the exercise addiction is not negative but positive one. It means the value of exercise as a meritorious human behavior by doing with strong own will and energetic effort. Accordingly, the exercise addiction implies denying the medicalization and the experience as a safe way to value one's effort.
