심판판정과 비디오판독 도입에 관한 윤리적 쟁점 연구

비디오판독과 같은 판정보조기술 도입의 문제는 다루어져야 할 여러 중요한 쟁점들이 있음에도 불구하고 스포츠에서 심판판정의 의미와 스포츠의 본질을 고려한 틀 안에서 비디오판독 제도에 관한 철학적 탐구는 거의 이루어지지 않고 있다. 이 연구는 바로 이러한 문제의식에 따라 스포츠에서 심판과 판정이 가지는 의미에 대한 철학적 논의를 토대로 비디오판독제도 도입에 관한 윤리적 쟁점을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해, 스포츠에서 심판판정의 기술적 보조수단으로 비디오판독 시스템을 도입하는 것에 대한 찬성자와 반대자의 각 입장을 살펴보고, 왜 그들이 대조되는 입장을 갖는지, 왜 서로 다른 가치판단을 내리며, 이 판단의 바탕이 되는 가치이론이 무엇인지에 대해 문헌고찰을 통하여 분석하였다. 이 연구에서는 심판 권위의 문제, 비디오판독을 행하는 주체의 문제, 정확함과 정당함의 문제라는 세 가지 쟁점을 도출하였으며, 다양한 철학적 관점에서 각 쟁점을 고찰함으로써 비디오판독 시스템 도입에 관한 논의의 이론적 틀을 마련하였다. 이와 같은 윤리적 쟁점에 대한 논의가 선행되어야 비디오판독과 같은 새로운 기술이 스포츠에 야기할 수 있는 문제가 무엇이고, 이에 대처하기 위한 방안도 효과적으로 모색할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Recently, technology has impacted upon sports umpiring and refereeing. In sport, it is useful to consult available technologies. However, there are several issues for officiating, including those arising from use of decision-aid technology which cause degradation of the epistemological privilege of the umpire, consequent threats to their ontological authority, and unwarranted trust in what cameras show. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the ethical issues raised in umpiring through decision-aid technology. For this purpose, this article contemplates the concept and significance of umpiring from a philosophical perspective in order to clarify the degree to which technology can be applied to sports. Then, this study analyzes why there is a clear division of pros and cons on the use of decision-aid technology in terms of the following three: authority of the umpire; who makes the decision; and accuracy and fairness. Through this study, it is expected that the thoughtless use of technology triggered by the commercialization of sport can be stopped and that useful policies for the development of sport in relation to technology can be conceived.
