본 연구는 중증․중복장애인 당사자가 지각하는 장애에 관한 인식과 도전 과제를 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 H 대학에 재학 중인 중증․중복장애인 당사자 4명을 대상으로 질적 연구 기법인 포토보이스를 활용하여 장애를 가지고 살아간다는 것의의미와 경험, 생각을 보여주는 사진을 찍어 오도록 하고, 의미 있는 사진 자료를 토대로개별 면담 및 집단 토의를 시행하여 4가지 주제와 9가지 맥락의 주제별 내용을 도출하였다. 그 결과, 중증․중복장애인 당사자에게 장애를 가지고 살아간다는 것은 ‘불편함과 차별, 편견’을 의미하였고, 장애로 인한 어려움은 ‘재활 과정에서의 지침과 불안함’으로 나타났으며, 장애에 대처하는 데 도움이 된 것은 ‘긍정적 사고와 자신감, 위로와 지지’였고, 앞으로의 도전 과제로 ‘포기하지 않기, 직업인으로서 삶을 살아가기, 독립생활 시도하기’ 같은 평범한 삶을 희망하는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the awareness and challenges of disability perceived by people with severe and multiple disabilities. To this end, four people with severe and multiple disabilities enrolled in H University were asked to take pictures showing the meaning, experience, and thoughts of living with disabilities using PhotoVoice, a qualitative research technique, and based on meaningful photo data, individual interviews and group discussions were conducted to derive content for each of four topics and nine contexts. As a result, living with disabilities meant 'inconvenience, discrimination, and prejudice' for people with severe and multiple disabilities, and difficulties caused by disabilities were 'exhaustion and anxiety in the rehabilitation process'. Positive thinking, confidence, comfort, and support' were helpful in dealing with disabilities, and they hoped for a normal life such as 'not giving up, living as a professional, and trying to live independently' as future challenges.
