Abstract
This study aims to examine childcare teachers' perceptions of early childhood learning and learning support environments in the digital age. For this purpose, a questionnaire was used to survey 130 childcare teachers working at daycare centers in Busan. Teachers' perceptions of early childhood learning in the digital age were explored using a sentence completion-type metaphor questionnaire, while their perceptions of learning support environments were investigated using a closed-ended questionnaire. The results showed that childcare teachers' perceptions of early childhood learning in the digital age could be categorized into four types: everyday learning, beneficial learning, playful learning, and ethical learning. As for the learning support environment, teachers perceived that digital education was conducted about once or twice a week, with a generally sufficient environment for digital education. The most commonly used digital media were computers, electronic whiteboards, projectors, document cameras, and overhead projectors, which are all forms of ICT. The daycare directors were generally perceived to provide frequent support for digital education, but there was a strong perception that future support should focus on improving the digital environment, such as the distribution of devices and the provision of digital content. Perceptions of the learning support environment showed some variation depending on the teachers' general background, but overall, differences were more pronounced based on the type of institution they worked at. These findings suggest that recognizing the value of early childhood learning in the digital age, along with the need to reorganize daycare environments to support learning, calls for more multifaceted support.
