19세기 말 20세기 초 프랑스의 유명한 동양학자였던 모리스 꾸랑(Maurice Courant)은 21종의 한국관련 저술을 남겼다. 그의 한국에 관한 저술은 한국의 정치, 역사, 사회, 언어, 종교, 음악, 문화 등 전 분야에 걸친 광범위한 연구의 결과였다. 꾸랑의 한국에 관한 저술은 한국학이라는 용어도 없었던 19세기 말 20세기 초에, 다양한 주제의 방대한 연구라는 점에서 그 역사적인 의의가 매우 크다. 이 논문은 위대한 한국학 학자였던 모리스 꾸랑의 저작들이 처음으로 한국에 소개된 것은 언제이며, 그 이후 한국에서 모리스 꾸랑에 대한 연구는 어떻게 진행되어 왔고 그 성과는 무엇인지를 고찰해 보았다.
Abstract
Maurice Courant(1865-1935), specialist on oriental studies in France, wrote 21 titles related to Korea. His works cover a wide range of politics, history, society, language, religion, music and culture on Korea. In the late 19th and early 20th century, even there was no words of Korean studies, Courant's works on various subjects of Korean studies has historical significance. The aim of this article is to describe when Courant's works was first introduced into Korea, how to be progressed a further study on Maurice Courant thereafter and what its products would be.
