관용표현의 의미 구조와 흉내말 변형 제약

이 연구는 현대국어의 관용표현에서 흉내말(Symbolic word)에 따른 통사적 특성(syntactic feature)을 살피는 것이 목적이다. 관용표현은 구(phrase) 이상의 단위로 이루어져 있지만 의미상 하나의 낱말처럼 기능하여, 통사적인 변형을 잘 허용하지 않는다. 하지만 관용표현의 통사적 변형(transformation)은 관용표현에 따라 차이가 있는데 본 연구에서는 이를 관형표현의 의미 구조와 관련된 것으로 이해하였다. 이 연구에서는 관용표현의 의미 유형을 내적인 의미 구조에 따라, 구성 요소의 의미 합으로 형성된 A'B'형, AB'형과 실제 사태(situation)나 행위에서 온 C형으로 구분하였다. 한국어의 관용표현에서 흉내말은 필수적 성분이 되기도 하고, 수의적인 성분이 되기도 한다. 관용표현은 닿소리와 홀소리의 교체나 반복(reduplication) 등, 흉내말의 다양한 변이형(variation)을 허용하는 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우가 있는데, 본 연구에서는 이를 흉내말의 의미 구조와 관련한 것으로 설명하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the syntactic feature in the idiomatic expression of the contemporary Korean language following symbolic word. Idiomatic expression is comprised of at least phrase units, but it is possible as a single word due to the nature of its significance. Moreover, syntactic transformation is not permitted easily. However, there is a difference when it comes to the syntactic transformation of idiomatic expression depending on the idiomatic expression. This research understood this difference as related to the idiomatic expression’s semantic structure. This research classified the types of the idiomatic expression’s significance to the A'B' formed of the sum of the significance of the components, AB' type or to the C type that derives from the actual situation or act depending on the internal semantic structure. Symbolic word in the idiomatic expression of the Korean language can become the essential component, and can become discretionary component. As for the idiomatic expression, there are instances in which diverse variations are allowed or not allowed such as replacement or reduplication of nouns and consonants. This research explained this as related to the symbolic word’s semantic structure.
