박물관 기획전시 개선에 대한 내부적 시각

본 연구는 박물관 기획전시에 대한 현장 중심의 문제점과 개선방안을 파악하는데 목적이 있다. 박물관 기획전시는 박물관의 양적 증가에 대한 수많은 활성화 연구들 중 하나로 주목받아 왔으며, 주로 공간 구성이나 전시 디자인 개선을 중심으로 한 하드웨어 중심의 접근 연구가 많았다. 그러나 하드웨어 중심의 연구들은 박물관 현장의 문제를 충분히 고려하지 못한, 어린이를 비롯한 특정 대상을 위한 아이디어 제시 위주로 제안하는 방식에 그쳤다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 박물관 기획전시 개념을 살펴보고, 전시커뮤니케이션 과정을 통해 기획전시 담당자가 기획단계에 고려하는 요소를 알아보았다. 이를 바탕으로 3곳의 국립박물관에서 기획전시 담당자와의 인터뷰를 통해 박물관 현장에 적용 가능한 개선방안을 제시하였다. 박물관 기획전시는 해당 박물관의 설립취지와 더불어 박물관별로 기획전시의 주요 특징에 따라서 각기 다른 모습을 보여주고 있었다. 그러나 박물관 기획전시 문제점과 개선방안에 대한 담당자들은 예산 및 인력 지원, 그리고 장기적인 계획에 의한 기획전시 준비가 필요함을 공통적으로 개선되어야 할 방안으로 지적하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was explored definitions of the temporary exhibition, based on exhibition conceptual terms provided by International Council of Museums. The features of the temporary exhibition planning were explored in terms of form and content. To discover these formal features, agents in charge and their assigned tasks were discovered through interviews with coordinators of these temporary exhibitions. This study aims to provide a new recognition of the temporary exhibition, which is not regarded as a supplemental project of the permanent exhibition, but as an independent program with diverse contents. Conclusively, this study shows that the temporary exhibition could be an ideal type of display for museums, instead of the typical type of exhibition found in many art galleries, according to the definitions of the temporary exhibition and its features mentioned above.
