고려인 중도입국 청소년의 한국어 단모음에 대한 한국어 모어 화자의 지각 양상

Abstract

This study examines the perceptual patterns of Korean native speakers regarding the Korean monophthongs produced by Goryeoin immigrant youths. By investigating how these native speakers perceive the monophthongs produced by Goryeoin youths, the research analyzes the patterns of errors in monophthong production and identifies key areas for instructional focus in monophthong education for these learners. The accuracy rate of native speakers in identifying the monophthongs produced by the Goryeoin youths was 78.5%. When categorized by vowel type, the accuracy rates were as follows: ‘/ㅣ/ > /ㅏ/, /ㅔ/ > /ㅡ/ > /ㅜ/ > /ㅓ/ > /ㅗ/’. /ㅣ/ achieved a 100% accuracy rate, while /ㅏ/, /ㅔ/, and /ㅡ/ also demonstrated high accuracy rates above 95%. Some errors in the pronunciation of /ㅏ/, /ㅔ/, and /ㅡ/ were likely influenced by the characteristics of Russian vowels in certain learners' speech. In contrast, /ㅜ/, /ㅓ/, and /ㅗ/ exhibited relatively lower accuracy rates and more complex error patterns. In the case of /ㅜ/, it is sometimes perceived as /ㅗ/ by Korean native speakers. However, /ㅗ/ produced by Goryeoin youths is not misperceived as /ㅜ/, it appears that these adolescents generally distinguish between /ㅜ/ and /ㅗ/ in their pronunciation. Nonetheless, the perception of the /ㅜ/ produced by Goryeoin youths as /ㅗ/ is related to height of the tongue. The highest error rate was observed for /ㅗ/, and /ㅓ/ showed complex cross-perception with three different categories. These two vowels exhibit mutual cross-errors in perception among Korean native speakers, with their cross-perceived and misperceived forms showing similar acoustic characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop instructional content and strategies that effectively utilize the height and front-back position of the tongue, as well as rounding characteristics, to help differentiate between these two vowels.
