1990년대 이후 지역을 대상으로 지역에서 형성된 문화와 지역이 안고 있는 문제에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히고 지역의 문제해결을 위한 학문적 활동이 나름대로 진행되고 있다. 특히 현대사회에서 범인류적 차원의 현상이 된 세계화에 대한 지역차원의 대응 성격인 지방화의 동시 진행과 더불어 이를 포괄하는 世方化는 현대사회의 어쩔 수 없는 지배적 흐름이 되었다. 이러한 상황은 ‘지역’의 의미제고와 역할을 새롭게 부각시켜야 할 ‘지역문화학’의 중요성이 강조되고 있으며 이를 위한 대안 강구가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 지역학의 의미를 파악하고 이를 근거로 지역의 문화를 담론으로 하는 ‘지역문화학’ 연구의 의미, 연구 범위와 방법, 상대적 지역의 성격을 파악하며 지역의 중심 가치라고 할 수 있는 지역문화의 속성을 고찰함과 아울러 향후 지역문화학이 자리하기 위해서는 어떤 명제들이 우선적으로 논의되고 고찰하여야 할 것인가 하는 역할과 과제를 제안하고자 하였다.
Abstract
Academic activities geared toward extending the scope of understanding regional cultures and regionally unique issues and addressing regional issues have been going on as usual since the 1990s. However, with the rise of globalization and with localization bearing the characteristics of a regional response to globalization, the “glocalization” encompassing these two has become a predominant aspect of modern society. Under these circumstances, there has been emphasis on “regional culturology” to reconsider the meaning of a “region” and to shed new light on its role, thus requiring directions to address this issue. This study aims to present the role of regional culturology and the tasks ahead to promote it: first, to figure out the meaning of regional studies, based on which the significance, scope, and methods of “regional culturology,” as well as comparative regional characteristics, would be identified; second, to examine the attributes of regional cultures, which is equivalent to understanding a region’s central value; and third, to explore the propositions that should be first discussed and examined for regional culturology’s position in the future.
