Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the pre-service elementary school teachers' biological literacy and perceptions, attitudes of climate change according to sex and major and to understand the relationship between biological literacy and perceptions, attitudes of climate change respectively. The results of this study were as follows: Firstly, the biological literacy of pre-service male teachers was slightly higher than that of female teachers, but the difference was not statistically significant as a result of the independent sample t-test. Secondly, there were significant differences in biological literacy among major. There were statistically significant differences between the natural science major and humanities major only, and there was no difference between the other majors. Only in the 'continuity of life' sub-areas of biological literacy was significantly different. Thirdly, The correlation between the pre-service teachers' biological literacy and perceptions, attitudes of climate change was very high. The sub-areas 'structure and function of life' and 'control of life' of biological literacy correlated highly with the sub-areas 'interest and awareness of climate change' of perceptions, attitudes of climate change. The sub-areas 'diversity and evolution of life' of biological literacy correlated highly with the sub-areas 'attitude and behavior to cope with problems' of perceptions, attitudes of climate change.
