Abstract
The prominent role of junior officers who get to lead the soldiers at the field is increasingly being recognized as one of the deciding factor for winning battles. The purpose of this study is to find out the leadership competency of successful junior officers. For this we have surveyed 112 officers who have received the Sim-Il and Jae-Gu award during the years 2005~2009. The results of this study are summarized in four part. Firstly the most important facts required to be a successful junior leaders are researched. Secondly the behavioral characteristics of those are diagnosed by using the adjective rating questionnaire of SYMLOG. Thirdly various leadership skills which are needed to establish an effective relationship with other and to motivate the soldiers are suggested . Lastly the know-how for the effective troop management is surveyed. The results of this study are expected to give an useful guide for cadets and junior officers to be a successful leader.
