Abstract

The purpose of study is to figure out the influence of emotional approach coping and social support on depression. Then, with a group of 400 cadets and a group of 376 college students, the study explored which model would be more appropriate between the moderation model and the mediation model to find the influence of emotional approach coping and social support on depression. Additionally, it examined whether there is any difference in mediation model and moderation model between the cadet group and the college student group. For the moderation model, the hierarchical regression model was performed. As a result, there was significant interaction between emotional approach coping and social support for depression in the cadet group and the whole group. On the other hand, when the structural equation model was implemented to find out the mediation model, the partial mediation model showed better fit index than the complete mediation model. The partial mediation model was more relevant to the college student group than to the cadet group. Finally, the discussion and implication were suggested.
