Abstract
This study proposes a hierarchical collision risk assessment model to evaluate the feasibility of shared airspace between military helicopters and BVLOS unmanned aircraft. By integrating a GAS model for spatial collision analysis and the RRT* algorithm for optimal pathfinding, we simulated scenarios involving increased altitude limits (Zmax) and mass unmanned aircraft deployment in Hongcheon-gun. Results showed that collision probabilities remained below 10e-9 per hour for a single unmanned aircraft but scaled linearly with fleet size (n). Given the unique low-altitude operations of military helicopters (e.g., training, hovering) and risks from large-scale unmanned aircraft operations, strategic separation protocols and real-time airspace management systems are critical. The model provides actionable insights for policymakers and engineers to safely integrate drones into military airspace.
