본 연구에서는 인간의 생활 행위 중에서 가장 기본이 되는 의식주 중에서도 식생활과 관련된 한국어 가열요리동사 어휘군집의 의미확장 양상을 밝히고자 한다. 다의어에서 의미가 연결된 구조와 의미가 확장되는 양상을 분석하여, 의미들 간의 연관관계를 밝히고, 의미가 확장되는 방향성과 확장되는 거리를 결정하는 언어학적 요인과 인지적 동기를 찾고자 한다. 이와 동시에 인지의미론적 방법론과 구조주의적 방법론을 상호보완적으로 통합할 가능성을 모색한다. 우선, 가열요리동사 어휘군집에서 각 어휘의 의미를 원형의미와 확장의미로 구분하고, 의미가 확장되어가는 과정이 의미성분을 매개로 설명이 가능함을 살펴보았다. 이어, 해당 의미장에서 유사한 의미확장 양상을 지닌 어휘를 군집화한 결과와 의미성분분석을 통해 계층화한 결과를 비교, 분석하였다. 그 결과, Nida(1975)가 제안한 변별적 자질의 세 가지 분류인 공통요소, 구분요소, 보충요소의 교체에 따라 원형의미에서 확장의미로 의미가 확장되는 거리가 결정된다는 점을 밝힐 수 있었다. 의미가 확장되는 거리는 공통요소의 교체가 가장 멀리, 다음으로 구분요소의 교체이고, 보충요소의 교체는 최단 거리로 의미가 확장되어 해당 의미장 내부로 의미가 변화하는 양상을 보였다. 아울러, 원형의미와 확장의미가 지닌 논항의 선택제약이 의미가 확장되는 방향성과 확장의미가 위치하게 되는 의미장의 종류 그리고 의미가 확장되는 거리 등을 유추할 수 있는 유용한 정보를 제공함을 밝힐 수 있었다.
Abstract
The present study aims to examine the lexical sense extension of Korean heating verbs in culinary semantic field. We examined the aspects of lexical sense extension of word cluster by surveying the structure of senses within each polysemy and the relation of lexical senses therein, thereby exploring the underlying linguistic factors and cognitive motives that dictate the direction and extent of lexical sense extension. In the course of this analysis, potential integration of methodologies of cognitive and structuralist semantics was also explored. We divided into corresponding prototype and extended senses and verified that the process of lexical sense extension was explainable on the basis of componential analysis. Additionally, in the culinary semantic field, the results from the classification based on the pattern of lexical sense extension and the lexical clusters based on the componential analysis were compared and contrasted. As a result, we show that the variation of the three variables components of distinctive feature suggested by Nida(1975) determines the extent of lexical sense extension from prototype to extended senses. The impact on the extent of lexical sense extension appeared to be in descending order of common component, diagnostic component, and supplementary component. Moreover, we found that selectional restriction conditions of argument embedded in prototype and extended senses provide with substantial information, which could be useful in predicting the direction and extent of lexical sense extension, and the type of semantic field where the extended senses are located.
