Abstract
The purpose of this study is to verify whether college students' mental health in social welfare class affect the attitude towards people with mental illness and social distance. For this study, through the Quasi-experimental design, the 50 students of mental health and social welfare theory were organized into experimental groups and 42 non-students as comparative groups. Using the Community Attitude to the Mentally Ill Inventory (CAMI) and the Social Distance Scale(SDS), pre and post tests were conducted and average comparison was performed. Students who took the Mental Health in Social Welfare changed their attitude toward the people with mental illness statistically significantly and positively compared to non-students. In addition, it was found that the social distance of students in the class was statistically significantly lower than those in non-students. Based on this, prospective social welfare firms explained the importance of the attitude toward the people with mental illness growing up as experts working in the mental health area and suggested specific directions on this.
