(Disability and Life Dynamics Panel)
Abstract
This study aims to examine the mediating effect of depression and the moderating effect of accessibility to community resources in the relationship between social participation and subjective health status among people with disabilities. Data from the 5th wave (2022) of the Disability and Life Dynamics Panel were analyzed for 4,140 individuals with disabilities aged 19 and older using SPSS 23.0 and the PROCESS macro. The results are as follows. First, social participation had a significant positive effect on the subjective health status of people with disabilities. Second, depression partially mediated the relationship between social participation and subjective health status. Third, accessibility to community resources did not show a significant moderating effect on the direct relationship between social participation and subjective health status. However, the indirect effect of social participation on subjective health status through depression was significantly moderated by accessibility to community resources. Based on these findings, the study suggests policy and practical measures to enhance social participation and improve accessibility to community resources for people with disabilities.
