(Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled, PSED)
Abstract
Purpose: This study examines the impact of subjective socioeconomic status (SES) on social participation among individuals with disabilities and empirically investigate the moderating effect of disability acceptance in this relationship. Method: Utilizing data from the 2023 Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (PSED), a nationally representatitve sample of 3,230 registered individuals with disabilities aged between 15 and 64 was analyzed. Regression analyses were conducted using STATA 18.0 on the final sample after excluding cases with missing values. Results: The findings demonstrate a statistically significant positive association between higher subjective SES and increased levels of social participation. Crucially, disability acceptance exhibited a significant moderating effect in a negative direction, attenuating disparities in social participation linked to subjective SES. This suggests that enhanced disability acceptance mitigates structural disadvantages in social engagement among individuals with lower perceived SES. Conclusion: The study elucidates psychological mechanisms inpeding social integreation and emphasized the necessity of multifaceted interventions to foster disability acceptance. By reconceptualizing disability acceptance as a socially mediated process facilitated through peer interactions and collective identity formation, the research underscores the importance of strengthening peer counseling, group-based programs, and self-help groups. Policy implications include establinshing public support systems to revitalize disability organizations and instituting standardized protocles for deploying specialized psychological counselors. These integrative strategies are posited to enhance social participation and advance inclusive societal frameworks.
