이 연구는 어머니의 취업 여부 및 유아의 성별이 어머니의 양육스트레스와 유아의 정서조절능력에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 어머니의 양육스트레스와 자녀의 정서조절능력 간에 관계성을 알아보고자 하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 본 연구는 서울과 경기도 지역에 소재한 5개의 유아교육기관에 다니는 만 4-6세의 유아를 둔 취업모 86명과 비취업모 94명, 총 180명의 어머니를 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 연구도구는 가정환경 조사서, 어머니의 양육스트레스 측정도구(Korean Parenting Stress Index-short form)와 유아의 정서지능평정척도이다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 19.0 프로그램을 통해 빈도와 백분율 분석, 더미변수를 이용한 회귀분석과 Pearson 상관관계분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 어머니의 취업여부와 유아의 성별은 어머니의 양육스트레스에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 어머니의 취업여부에 상관없이 유아의 성별은 유아의 정서조절능력에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 여아가 남아보다 정서조절능력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 어머니의 양육스트레스와 유아의 정서조절능력은 전반적으로 낮은 부적상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 양육스트레스의 복합적 원인의 분석 및 부모역할 지원을 통한 유아의 정서적․사회적 능력 증진을 위한 방안 모색에 대해 제고해보도록 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of mothers’ employment and their children’s gender on mothers’ parenting stress and their children’s emotional intelligence. It also examined the relationship between parenting stress and the emotional intelligence of children. The subjects of this study were 86 employed mothers and 94 unemployed mothers, for a total of 180 mothers in kindergartens and day care centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The mothers of 4-to-6-year old children were administered a survey that assessed their demographics, parenting stress, and the emotional intelligence of their children. Statistical analysis was performed using frequency and percentage, regression analysis using dummy variables, and correlation analysis at the p<.05levelbySPSS19.0program. The results were as follows: First, it was found that there were no significant effects from the mothers’ employment and their children’s gender on parenting stress. Second, there was no significant effect from the mother’s employment on the emotional intelligence of their children, though the emotional intelligence of girls was found to be higher than that of boys regardless of the mother’s employment status. Third, there was a negative correlation between parenting stress and the emotional intelligence of children. This study provides insight into improving children’s emotional and social ability through analysing the factors that influence parenting stress and recommends support for stressed mothers.
