Abstract

The purposes of this study were (1) to find out differences between Korean and Chinese mothers’ child-rearing attitudes according to their nationalities and related variables (ages, education levels, social status), and (2) to find out differences in child-rearing attitudes of Korean and Chinese mothers with one child. Major findings were as follows: First, in terms of the population background, affective attitudes were the only difference between Chinese and Korean mothers. Based on the result of researching nationality and age, affective attitudes and rejective attitudes had significant differences depending on the nationality. In terms of the nationality and educational background, the analysis of child-rearing attitudes revealed that affective attitude and rejective attitudes have differences, and affective attitudes and educational background has interactive effectiveness. According to the educational background, autonomic attitudes have significant differences. There is interactive effectiveness between nationality and educational background. Last,looking at the child-rearing attitude based on the nationality and social stratum, there is significant difference among affective attitudes, rejective attitudes, and controlled attitudes. There is a significant difference between affective attitudes and autonomic attitudes. At a result of the analyzing correlation between mothers’ population background variable and child-rearing attitude area, in the case of Chinese mothers, affective attitudes and autonomic attitudes have a direct ratio, and the rejective attitude and controlled attitude has a direct ratio. Second, the only difference between Chinese and Korean mothers is in terms of their child-rearing attitudes. Korean mothers are more affective and controlled than Chinese mothers, and Chinese mothers are more rejective.
