재수생의 생활적응에 관한 질적연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand adaptation experience of college entrance exam repeaters and to provide an actual theory to explain adaptation process. 16 repeaters aged between 19 and 22 attending 00 Academy in Busan who are repeating the college entrance exam for at least once and at most three times were selected as subjects of an in-depth interview. For analysis of data, qualitative research method called grounded theory suggested by Strauss & Cobin (1998) was applied. As a result of data analysis using grounded theory method, 73 concepts, 34 sub-categories and 19 categories were deduced from open coding. From the result of category analysis using paradigm, the causal condition in adaptation process of repeaters was found to be ‘internal motivation on the decision, stimulated by an external factor’ and central phenomenon was ‘anxiety.’ Contextual conditions that affect the central phenomenon were found to be ‘support and giving confidence to parents,’ ‘interested in a specific occupation,’ ‘facing a crisis,’ and ‘trustworthy care of family.’ Mediation conditions that accelerate or suppress interaction strategies on the central phenomenon were ‘individual’s internal variable,’ ‘facing a difficulty in life,’ and ‘coping with the crisis.’ Interaction and mutual interaction strategies were ‘facing the reality of repeaters,’ ‘placing efforts to be acknowledged,’ and ‘adjusting relationships.’ Such results were shown as ‘recovery of self respect,’ ‘growth through repeating,’ ‘acquisition of certainty about the decision,’ ‘matured thoughts,’ ‘uneasiness about reaching the goal,’ and ‘finding of reasons for decision to repeat.’ In the adaptation process of repeaters, core category was found to be ‘overcoming uneasy reality and recovering the existence.’ Finally, the implicantion and limitation of these findings were presented.
