Abstract
Previous studies have suggested that types, frequencies, and effects of positive emotions on happiness are different from cultures. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of engaging/disengaging emotions and their effects on happiness in our culture. Data was collected from 503 college students(male 220 female 279). Results revealed that the frequency of engaging emotions was higher than the frequency of disengaging emotions. Engaging emotions more affected subjective well-being than disengaging emotions in both individualistic group and collectivistic one. The emotional components of SWB were correlated with collectivism, and the cognitive components of SWB were correlated with the horizontal dimension of culture. Results were discussed.
