개인의 문화성향이 주관적 안녕감에 미치는 영향 : 자기존중감과 무조건 자기수용 매개효과를 중심으로

초록

본 연구에서는 정신건강 분야에서 널리 쓰이고 있는 자기존중감과 무조건 자기수용이 우리문화의 특성을 감안할 때 유용한 개념인지, 그리고 어떤 역할을 하는지 규명해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대학생 615명 으로부터 수집한 자료를 대상으로 위계 회귀분석과 경로분석을 하였다. 그 결과 자기존중감과 무조건 자 기수용은 우리문화에서도 여전히 중요한 개념임인 것으로 나타났다. 문화성향을 고려했을 때 개인주의 가운데 수평-개인주의가 그리고 집단주의 가운데 수평-집단주의가 자기존중감이나 자기수용을 매개로 주 관적 안녕감에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 결과는 우리사회가 집단주의 사회이지만 개인주의 성 향도 중요하다는 사실을 시사하며 두 성향이 모두 주관적 안녕감에 영향을 미치고 있다는 사실을 의미한 다.

Abstract

Both self-esteem and self-acceptance are commonly used concepts in the mental health field in Korea People use those imported concepts without contemplating their effectiveness in explaining Koreans' psychological wellbeing. This study is aimed to investigate the mediating effects of self-esteem and self-acceptance in the relationship between cultural orientation and subjective wellbeing among Koreans. Data was collected from 615 college students in 4 counties in Korea, and analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis and path analysis. Results indicated that self-esteem and self-acceptance mediated the effects of cultural orientation to one's subjective wellbeing. Among cultural orientation, horizontal individualism and horizontal collectivism had effects on the subjective wellbeing in the mediation of self esteem and/or self acceptance. Results suggest that individualistic values are as important as collectivistic ones in individual's subjective wellbeing in Korean culture, although Korea is categorized as a collectivistic society, when mediated by self-esteem and/or self-acceptance. It is recommended to consider a client's individualistic values as well as collectivistic ones in counseling in order to enhance the client's subjective wellbeing.
